About
Positive Pooch Solutions founder and Director, Angela has over 30 years of experience in training dogs.
She has studied positive dog training at the Delta Institute of Australia. She attained a Cert IV Companion Animal Services/Animal Behaviour and Training and is an accredited Delta dog trainer. After working as a volunteer for some amazing dog agencies in Canberra and achieving her formal qualifications, Angela decided to step out and start, develop and grow her own pooch solutions. She provides dog training in the form of private and group sessions, walk and train, dogs as therapy visits. She gives advice to guardians looking at adding a dog to the family, and helps to settle a dog into their new home. This meant she has been able to have a more personal relationship with clients and also people in the community. Angela has lived in Canberra all her life and pets have always been part of her family. Recently she had three dogs, Bailey Bear, Chloe Bear and Kody Bear. Angela first discovered positive reinforcement and clicker training when Bailey was enrolled in puppy preschool 17 years ago. Angela attended formal obedience classes with Chloe and Bailey and completed advanced levels. Angela’s dog Kody was a reason she wanted to explore dog training and dog behaviour further. Kody was a rescue. He had been locked in a bedroom 24/7 by his previous owner and had no proper socialisation or training. When doing visits at Hospital Wards and Aged Care facilities with two of her dogs as a Delta Therapy dog team she was often asked, ‘how did you train your dogs to be so calm?’ This got Angela thinking and then started her journey to become a qualified professional dog trainer. Both of the dogs had received no formal training other than basic good manners and good socialisation. She then went on to also receive accreditation as a Fear Free Dog Trainer. She is always looking at ways to improve her knowledge and attends Conferences for National Dog Trainers and other dog/training related conferences and is currently ongoing studies in TTouch and Bowen Therapies to broaden her skills. Last year, sadly, beloved Chloe Bear (15 yrs) crossed the rainbow bridge. More recently Kody Bear (14 yrs) and it was so devastating to lose two extremely loved furry family members. More recently Angela and the family were gifted with a young Cavoodle puppy, Suzie Q Bear. She has years of experience with training and helping owners with their Pooch issues. This means she personally has past and also current knowledge of what it is like 24/7 to be raising a baby puppy into a well mannered pooch. Currently Suzie is doing all the regular puppy things, biting, chewing, jumping, getting into everything. She is also doing ground work with Suzie Q to be a therapy dog. Sign up for hints and tips in the form of a newsletter and a blog about living with older dogs, dogs with medical issues as well as young pups. Bailey Bear is now 17 and Suzie is 10 months. Her mission is to help dog owners unleash their dog’s full ‘pawtential’ and teach their dogs to be good citizens in the community! |
